10 Tips For Getting Your Home Organized This Spring

April 04, 2023

The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and your house is a mess! It’s time for a little spring cleaning and organizing. Here are our top tips for getting your home in tip-top-shape for spring and beyond.

1.    Adopt The One In, One Out Rule
For most people, storage isn’t infinite. Continually collecting things without donating or selling older items leads to so much clutter. When you purchase a new item of clothing or décor, give away or sell an older item so that your home doesn’t become overwhelmed with stuff.

2.    Create A Drop Zone
While this might seem counterintuitive, if you’re constantly dropping things off (your keys, purse, coat, or mail) all over the house, you need a designated drop zone. By choosing one drop off spot for everyday items, you’ll prevent the rest of your home from filling up with clutter.

3.    Put Shoes Away
This one can feel like a no-brainer but it’s anything but! Randomly discarded shoes take up an alarming amount of space. Place a small shoe rack or bin in the entry way or garage and be vigilant about the rest of your family’s shoe collection going back in the closet where they belong.

4.    Create A Specific Play Space
Creating a designated play area for kids is a great way to corral the mess of toys and art projects. Whether you have the space for an entire play room or a designated nook, the effect is the same—less mess all over your house.

5.    Organize Your Pantry with Decanting
Imagine: instead of opening up your pantry and catching an overflow of half used bags of pasta before they fall to the floor…you find yourself immersed in a sea of aesthetically pleasing, neatly aligned storage containers of labeled, decanted grains, spices, and more!

6.     Create a Daily Use Drawer
Banish bathroom clutter with a daily use drawer for all your essentials. Store your toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, hairbrush, and anything else you use daily in a designated drawer so that all of the essentials are out of sight but within reach.

7.    Purge Rarely Used Tools & Utensils
Do you really need a machine just for making quesadillas? If you think you can live without it, you haven’t used it in a year or more, or it has just one (obscure or easily swapped out) use, it’s time to give it away. Kitchen-Chinook-TC12

8.    Sort Your Medicine Cabinet
If you’re like most people, you definitely have a few old, expired, or unneeded medications or supplies kicking around your medicine cabinet. Consider this your opportunity to go through medications, prescriptions, and supplies and toss anything that’s expired or unneeded. Repeat this process every six months. showcase bathroom9.    Invest In Drawer Dividers
Say farewell to dreaded, jumbled drawers! By grouping items into similar categories, finding the item you need is a breeze, especially when you use drawer dividers to contain the items.

10.    Embrace Cord Keepers
Power cords take up way too much counter space! Keep cords in check by using stick on cord keepers
